Our History

The Jolly Farmers story……..

There has been a pub on this site since 1840, but it is rumoured to have been an illegal drinking den since the late 1780s.  The first registered proprietor was a Farmer by the name of  John Trigger. He ran the pub for 10 years, before the Kirkland family went on to manage the pub for the following 20 years.  The pub was then run by the Merriman family from 1881 until the turn of the last century (1901).  Although the Jolly Farmers has changed hands a number of times since then, the building and friendly atmosphere remain the same.  Now run by Landlord Paul Spencer,  the pub remains in good hands and is an extremely friendly, welcoming and traditional public house.

My partner had a melt in the mouth delicious rib eye steak perfectly cooked.I had the special of Hake with green lipped mussels and langoustine tails to say it was fabulous would be an understatement. Well done Paul you are a truly brilliant chef and as we said we will definitely be back..
